Microsoft and Uber Claude Code restrictions

Microsoft and Uber did not drop Claude because the model failed. They dropped a single-vendor habit: one CLI, one flagship rate, one retention rule. AshnaAI is the better alternative because the buyer pins Claude only when it is useful, routes volume to a cheaper capable model, and still gets PowerPoint, Tally, design, notes, and an API on the same account.

Microsoft and Uber Claude Code restrictions

What the market just proved

A single Claude Code pin looks simple until the vendor, the finance team, or legal takes it away. The Verge, 14 May 2026: Microsoft Experiences + Devices cancelled most Claude Code licenses and moved engineers to Copilot CLI. The Verge, 10 June 2026: Claude Fable 5 stayed out of the internal employee picker because Anthropic keeps prompts for 30 days (up to two years if flagged). Forbes / The Information and Bloomberg, 2 June 2026: Uber’s 2026 AI-tools budget was gone by April, then each agentic tool was capped at $1,500 a month.

Those are not “Claude is bad” stories. They are “one lab’s license, retention clause, or token invoice became the only path.” CNBC reported the same pressure industry-wide: route work that does not need a flagship to a cheaper capable model. Lindy said Claude-backed managed-agent routes moved toward DeepSeek with about 90% lower inference cost on those routes.

How AshnaAI is different—and better

The market default is a coding CLI tied to one lab. Copilot CLI is Microsoft’s answer for Microsoft. Another Claude Code seat is Anthropic’s answer for Anthropic. Neither is a company catalog. AshnaAI is different because the buyer pins the model: Claude when the brief needs it, GLM-5.3-Flash for volume coding at about $0.15 / $0.50 per 1M tokens versus $5 / $25–$30 on Opus 5 or Sol, Ashna-X1 for mixed agent work.

It is better because a restriction on one row does not stop the account. A Fable-style retention rule is a reason to pick a zero-retention Claude row or a different catalog id—not to freeze the team. The same ids run through an OpenAI-compatible API, so product code does not wait on an IDE contract.

Value to the team

Continuity: a Microsoft-style license cut or an Uber-style cap does not strand the workspace. Cost: volume turns leave flagship list rates. Breadth: the next ask after a patch is often a deck, a GST recon, a creative, or a study leaf—not another terminal session.

Those jobs are why AshnaAI is the alternative, not a cheaper Claude Code clone. Open AI PowerPoint generator, Tally automation, AI design and video, classroom notes, and the cheapest multi-model API. Buying page: AshnaAI vs Claude.

Frequently asked questions

Why did Microsoft and Uber restrict Claude Code?
Microsoft’s E+D group cancelled most Claude Code licenses by 30 June 2026 and steered engineers to Copilot CLI (The Verge). Uber exhausted its 2026 AI-tools budget by April and then capped Claude Code and Cursor at $1,500 a month per tool (Forbes / Bloomberg). Both are cost and control decisions, not a claim that Claude stopped working.
Why is AshnaAI a better alternative than another Claude Code seat?
AshnaAI lets the company pin Claude, GPT, Gemini, GLM-5.3-Flash, or Ashna-X1. Volume coding can leave flagship list rates. The same account still ships PowerPoint, Tally, design, classroom notes, and an OpenAI-compatible API. A second Claude Code license does not.
What value does a team get after a Claude restriction?
Work continues when one vendor changes a license or a retention rule. Everyday tokens cost flash-tier rates instead of $5 / $25–$30. Non-coding jobs—decks, books, pixels, notes—do not require a second product.
Did Microsoft ban Claude entirely?
No. The Verge reported E+D lost Claude Code seats and later that Fable 5 was missing from the internal employee picker over 30-day retention. Other Claude rows and customer Foundry/Copilot access were reported as still available.
Is AshnaAI a Claude Code replacement?
It is a multi-model workspace, not a fork of Claude Code. Claude can stay on the picker. The better alternative is the catalog plus the jobs Claude Code never shipped.
